Not all katydids are content to be small. Pseudophyllus is a genus of giants, and the individual found on Mount Rinjani measured roughly 10 centimeters, placing it among the largest of the katydids.
The entire body is green, with the basal half of the forewing costa white, a detail that stands out even against dense foliage. Its head is very short with a small, conical vertex, and its pronotum is covered with granular protuberances crossed by two transverse grooves.
This is a leaf mimic of the highest order: wide forewings that taper toward the tip, hindwings longer than the forewings with a leathery tip, and spines on the mid and hind femora for good measure. It sat on a branch looking exactly like the forest that had decided to grow legs.
